Samba is one of the most popular forms of music in Brazil and is widely viewed as Brazil’s national music style (not to be confused with Zamba- a style of Argentine music). It is a type of music and dance developed from the musical traditions of African slaves in Brazil and is characterised by the emphasis on the second beat. In Rio, Samba is inseparable from the Carnival and the samba schools compete in it each year to win the coveted first place! Samba is truly the ‘popular art’ of the people and is set to be extremely popular with us at this world event.
